Langley Makes Global History at the 2025 World Affairs Challenge

For the first time in Langley High School history, we entered the prestigious World Affairs Challenge—and placed in the top 3 out of nearly 180 teams worldwide. This extraordinary achievement redefines what’s possible when student innovation meets global purpose.
Our team’s AI-powered waste bin wasn’t just a project—it was a breakthrough. By blending cutting-edge technology with sustainable action, we’ve shown that Langley students can lead the way in solving the world’s toughest challenges.
Congratulations to our pioneering team, and thank you to Miss Tara Hohn for her invaluable guidance. The legacy of this achievement will echo far beyond this year—it’s the start of a new era for Langley diplomacy, innovation, and impact.

I'm leading Langley High School's first-ever team in the World Affairs Challenge (WAC) – an international competition where students develop and implement their own solutions to global problems. And we're not just jumping in – we're diving deep! To prepare for the competition beginning in January 2025, we were incredibly fortunate to host Souad Fennouh-Chalhoub, PhD, from the UN's Department of Global Communications in New York City. Dr. Fennouh-Chalhoub and her team gave us a fascinating debrief on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), providing unique insights into the interconnected nature of global challenges and emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in creating solutions. Inspired by her presentation, we're now gearing up to select our focus SDG, conduct in-depth research, and develop our own S.M.A.R.T. solutions – that's Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. We can't wait to share our progress as we work towards making a real difference in the world!
