A life of purpose: Albert Schweitzer, musician, theologian, physician and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, left an enduring legacy of service and humanitarianism.
My sophomore year presented a unique opportunity: being nominated to represent Langley High School at the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) seminar. This program, founded in 1958 by renowned actor and humanitarian Hugh O'Brian, cultivates leadership potential in high school sophomores. O'Brian, inspired by his time with Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Albert Schweitzer, deeply believed in the power of young people to change the world. Selected from the entire 10th-grade class, I was chosen to attend the 2025 HOBY Virginia Leadership Seminar, a weekend program held at James Madison University that empowers young people to become effective and ethical leaders in their communities. This opportunity, generously funded by the Woman's Club of McLean, aligns with my desire to find my place in making a difference. I'm grateful to Langley for selecting me to attend HOBY. I'm eager to learn from this experience and make our school proud.
